Highlights the key success factors to reduce and improve imaging waiting times

From April 2008, Diagnostics Service Improvement has merged with the Cancer Services Collaborative ‘Improvement Partnership’, the Heart Improvement Programme and Stroke Improvement to form a new national improvement programme in England, “NHS Improvement”.

Formed after a national review, NHS Improvement (www.improvement.nhs.uk) has brought together over eight years practical service improvement experience and will work with clinical networks and NHS organisations to transform, deliver and sustain improvements across the entire pathway of care in cancer, cardiac, diagnostics and stroke services.

The Radiology Service Improvement (RSI) Team continue to be committed to improving the experience of patients, carers, users and staff. Our aims are to spread changes which have been successful in reducing waits, improving access and streamlining services to support clinical staff to undertake sustainable service improvement.

The website a valuable resource for clinical teams wishing to improve services, increase timely access and reduce waiting times to ensure a patient focused service, features the latest 'success factors' for each modality and numerous case studies which will assist teams in achieving the Cancer Waiting Time targets and the 2008 GP Referral to Treatment target. The site also has information on staff development, role redesign and links to other programmes and websites.

CLICK HERE for the Success Factors Checklist

This is a simple checklist of the common success factors for reducing waiting times and improving services taken from the  full "Success Factors" document, (Appendix D of the Toolkit), launched at UKRC 2005. It has been compiled from the learning of "what works" from teams who have successfully implemented change. You may find it useful to assess your department against this list.
